The Peanuts comic strip character Snoopy is a beagle mutt, which means it's a mix and not a purebred. However its creator Charles Schulz says that Snoopy is a beagle. In the comic strip Snoopy is the name of Charlie Browns pet.

Beagle is a member of the hound group and is medium in size. It looks similar to a Foxhound but they are smaller with long soft ears and short legs. Beagles are scent hounds commonly used for hunting purposes. The beagle has smooth oval skull, brown or hazel eyes, square cut muzzle, black nose, low set ears that turn in towards the cheeks and a small curled tail.

They are well built with muscular bodies. Beagles appear in different colours. Some common colours are white with coloured patches and black with coloured spots. Some beagles are known to change colour throughout their life span.

US President Lyndon Johnson owned three Beagles: Him, Her and Edgar.
