What's The Difference Between A Muay Thai Roundhouse And A Taekwondo Turning Kick?

Round house or turning kicks build power in many ways.  It all depends on how you choose to throw them.  In Muay Thai, the kicking leg is slammed into the target in the same way that a footballer volleys a ball that's in mid air.  a Muay Thai boxer, practising with the pads, imagines the pad is that football and rather than flicking from the knee, uses the power of the leg moving through the air and making contact with the pad, this way, the shin, the instep and the foot all make contact with the pad.

A taekwondo turning kick has it's power in two places, the dynamic pivot on the standing leg which shifts and twists, pivoting on the floor at the moment of impact (which pushes the kick through the target) and the snapping action that occurs as the leg extends from knee to toe.  The taekwondo practitioners strike is delivered by the ball of the foot, with the toes curled back to protected them, this delivers a powerful, snapping force to a smaller striking area.  Some taekwondo styles include using the instep and top of the foot.
