The word metal is derived from a Greek name "Metallo". A group of elements whose atoms readily lose electrons to form positive ions are known as metals. Metals are different from the other elements because they have luster, they are malleable and they are shiny. When metals react with other elements they form metallic bonds or ionic bonds. During the chemical reactions metal atoms lose their electrons and therefore, they from basic solutions when dissolved in water.
