What Does Geranium Mean?

    It could refer to any one of an extensively distributed genus of plants (namely, Geranium which is of the family Geraniaceae, or the geranium family). These plants have typically regular generally white, purple or pink, with extended styles and glands which are seen to alternate with its petals; also called cranesbill.  The term has also been applied to members of the associated genus Pelargonium, commonly referred to as geraniums; also called storksbill. It has also come to imply a vibrant or strong red.

    The term geranium is a Latin term; from the Greek word geranion; it is a diminutive of geranos crane.

    It is often confused with the term Germanium which is a chemical element found in the periodic table which has the atomic number 32 and the symbol Ge.
