I believe it was Alfred Nobel after whom the Nobel prize is named.

 Industrialist Alfred Nobel invented the detonator for dynamite and nitroglycerin. Swedish industrialist, engineer and inventor.

 TNT's daddy was Alfred Nobel! Looking for a less dangerous form of gunpower, he invented the formula of nitroglycerin. Nitro is many times more powerful blasting powder & is more uniform in it's blending. In it's liquid form it is precariously prone to exploding by even a harsh movement or splashing.
With his remorse, caused by Military Uses being so dominant as well as harmful to masses of people, Mr. Nobel had set up prizes in the form of money, to be given yearly for people that created or formulated things which made human existence better.
