Can I Make My Own Carbon Monoxide Detector Out Of Recyclable Materials?

Answer Question

I think you're a bit mad, really.  I'm all for being an eco-freak, but this is a complicated chemistry-electronics thing, and you don't want to get it wrong.

The basics of how CO detectors work are outlined here.  You need to research more to find out about the gel they describe (a synthetic hemoglobin), or how the voltage somehow gets triggered to sound the alarm.

    More technical details and diagrams.

I suppose making it out of "recyclable" materials means identifying what you need ordinarily, and then figuring out a recyclable (or recycled) alternative.

More about the technical standards, and how many standard commercial CO detectors aren't very reliable.

    Yet another description.

Good luck reading all that.  Maybe you'll figure it out yet!
