The National Glass Centre of Sunderland has everything that one could hope to see in the glass industry. It is a cultural and educational resource housed in a massive and spectacular glass and steel building. Every year more than 100,000 people visit this wonderful place.
The purpose of the centre is to encourage artistic endeavours in the glass industry. With the growth of trade and commerce glass making too became established here with the Flemings brought over by the church to beautify the monastery, thus beginning an industry for which Sunderland is justly renowned today.
