Any illnesses that is caused by abnormalities of the genes is called genetic disorder. Let's say, a person has a sickle cell trait. Meaning, his genes has the trait to make his red blood cells form like sickles, which may result to anemia since the RBCs only live for few days. Any illness caused by the sickling of his cells is called genetic disorder, in this case a sickle cell anemia.

A genetic disorder is disorder that is in the genes, it has to do with the genes that are passed down in the family from one generation to another.  So either one or both parents were carriers of the disease whether it was present in them or not.
