Squirrel belongs to Rodentia group has 1650 different species. Yes squirrel is known as the largest group of living mammals.

if Zuhail says so then it must be so. by the way I love squirrels and birds, I feed them and am taming a few.
I saw a squirrel get hit by a car, he was thrown, it was obvious that the spine had been severed because he flipped and twitched for a minute or 3, I hope he did not suffer much. There was nothing to be done. I was in traffic and I know better than to approach a wounded animal with sharp teeth.

Yes anything that drinks milk when it is born, is a mammal. Warm blooded furry creatures are generally mammals. Squirrels are some of the smartest of the rodents, and can learn to overcome complex obstacle courses, and barriers, very quickly. They plant trees unwittingly and are an asset to the environment.
