How Do You Build Deck Stairs?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

One can build deck stairs either before or after placing the deck boards. Firstly, the measurements of the deck such as height should be taken. Then divide the height (in inches) of the deck by the number 6 or seven, as this is the normally taken riser height. Also calculate the tread.

To build the stairs, start by pouring foundation and a kicker plate, if needed. Use the measurements taken earlier on a treated board. This is your first stringer. Then, trace around the outside rim of the framing square, to look like a V.  Cut along the trace lines with the help of a saw. Attach the tops and bottoms of the stringers and cut risers and treads as needed. Finish it off by screwing the nails in place.
