What Does A Butterfly Symbolize?

The image of a butterfly is high in symbolism which differs from culture to culture. The butterfly is considered to the symbol for the soul for the Greeks. When it comes to Christianity it is deemed to be a symbol representational of the life cycle. In this case it is mainly used in reference to Christ where the caterpillar stage of a butterfly stands for natural earthly life; later the cocoon, corresponds to death of the body; and finally the butterfly which emerges from the cocoon signifies the resurrection.

Also, two butterflies are thought to be a symbol of a happy marriage. This is mostly seen in Chinese culture wherein two butterflies that are flying together is a believed to symbolise for a loving couple.
