My Dog Is Bleeding From Her Nose What's Wrong?

Answer Question

That's a question  you need to be asking your vet. We cannot diagnose your dog over the Internet, we would only be guessing and that will not help your dog's situation at all. Canine Nose Bleeds have so many different causes. Only a vet can tell you what the problem is. You need to take your dog to the vet and get this properly diagnosed and effectively treated. This is not something that I would wait on. You need to have your dog seen as soon as possible!

Well, humans get nose bleeds from capillaries just under the skin in their nose busting, and I'm assuming it's the same in a dog. I don't think it's anything to serious, but you should take your dog to a vet right away.

While this may seem like nothing since it happens to us it can also be quite serious in a dog and could be many things. While it could be caused by trauma it's always best to get it checked out. This requires investigation by a veterinarian.
First, are there any obvious wounds outside the nose? Does she play rough with another dog? They can get lumps, bumps, tumors and cancerous growths in there that you don't know are there until this happens. It could be foreign body like a foxtail that need to be removed (they keep working themselves in and can cause some serious damage). Has your dog maybe been sneezing a lot? Is there any blood in your dog's mouth (open it and look) or in the stool (aside from the obvious it can also show as black and tarry)? Are your dog's gums pink or pale? This could indicate a serious medical emergency as your dog could be bleeding out internally. Have you noticed any bruises with unknown cause or ones that seemed excessive to you with a known cause? Is your dog on any medications or have you recently given them something on your own? Does anything seem to be 'off' with your dogs face (any swelling, eyes look a little funny or whatever)? Have you ever thought your dog bled a bit more than necessary or has anyone mentioned it like a vet or groomer about nails or anything else? It could indicate a clotting disorder like VWD or caused for some other reason (it is important you tell your vets of any medication or poisons on the property and everything you can possibly think of since these can contribute to bleeding or other problems and even give them the most likely explanation so they have to do less to find the cause if it isn't immediately obvious). Bleeding from the nose does not actually have to be coming from the nose but a cause elsewhere in the body so it's important to have that checked. It may be nothing but with so many options it's best to see your vet to be sure. Call them and see what they think at least as they probably also have a better history on your dog which is always important with diagnosis. Hope she's all fixed up soon and it's nothing serious.
