How Do You Make A 'Manhattan" Cocktail?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters are what it takes to make a Manhattan cocktail. The proportions of whiskey and vermouth vary. The proportion could range from what would be a very sweet 1:1 ratio to a 4:1 ratio, which is much less sweet, but the 2:1 ratio makes the classic mixture.
After adding ice the cocktail is often stirred and strained into a cocktail glass. It is then garnished with a Maraschino cherry with a stem. It is also frequently served in an old-fashioned glass on the rocks.

The Manhattan has been referred to as a drinking man's cocktail, which is strong, urbane and simple. It has however not achieved the same level of recognition as the more widely known martini.
According to popular accounts the drink originated in the early 1870s at New York City's Manhattan Club.
