We get together with family and eat, but we don't have the traditional turkey dinner... Most of us don't like turkey.

I go to my sister's.  I usually arrive early to help her and her husband get ready for the rest of the family.  That is my favorite part of the holiday, before the other people get there and I can just spend time with my sister.
There is always a turkey and sometimes two.  My brother-in-law is of the If There's Not Too Much Food, Then There's Not Enough school of thought.  We all eat too much and then we keep on eating.
I think sometimes there's a football game on the TV, I don't pay attention to that because I'm not interested in sports.

The day before Thanksgiving everyone comes over. Women pitter patter around the kitchen. Men are outside cooking. We do a bunch of different seafood. We cover the table with plastic and newspaper, it all goes in the middle, and everybody munches. I cook all day next day. People are in and out, the men usually hang outside and b.s. Over the "old days" or find a project to do, which never gets done. Kids run around, playing. No video games in my house. We eat around 2 pm. Just hanging out the rest of the day. Have a few beers, eat more pie! People stop by or call all day because they're far away. It's kinda like a 2 day long bbq.

Thanksgiving is festival celebrated by the Christians. It is a national holiday in most of the Christian countries and is celebrated as a n expression of gratitude to the lord for all the blessings he has so kindly showered on us. It is considered as a harvest festival and was started to thank God for the bounty of autumn harvest. It is celebrated on different days in different countries. For instance, US celebrates this festival on the fourth Thursday of November while it is celebrated in the month of October, the second Monday to be exact in Canada.

Thanksgiving is a beautiful occasion because it gives an opportunity to take time off their busy schedules and assemble as a family to thank the Almighty for his kind gifts and blessings showered on us and to wish for similar happiness and prosperity in future. It is an occasion that makes us realize about how fortunate we are and to spread joy among the family and friends.

No unfortunately we don't celebrate Thanksgiving either due to living in the UK but as i teach my children at home, i thought that maybe this year i might find out as much as possible about the tradition of thanksgiving from all you lovely people here and teach my children all about it and then i will have the perfect excuse to try it out this year.
