What Is A Pump Shoe?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A pump shoe can refer to several different kinds of shoes depending on the individual using the word and where they are situated.

For example, a plimsoll shoe is commonly referred to as a pump shoe in Britain. It is a type of athletic shoe, the upper and sole of which is made up of rubber. This type of shoe was made as beachwear during the 1930s by the Liverpool Rubber Company which is the present day Dunlop.

This shoe was initially referred to as a sand shoe, the usage being obvious, and later attained the name of 'plimsoll' during the 1870s. In recent times the shoe has attained fashion status as a trend, popularised by Grunge, Hip Hop and Gangsta Rap artists who sport them often.
