    The most capped Republic of Ireland footballer is former Liverpool and Aston Villa player Steve Staunton, who amassed one hundred and two caps for his nation.  

    After a distinguished plating career, Staunton moved into management and is the current manager of the Republic of Ireland.  

    The former Sunderland centre forward and now chairman of Sunderland football club, Niall Quinn comes in second, with the giant forward amassing ninety one caps for his country.  

    Tony Cascarino comes in third after representing his country on eighty eight occasions.  

    Fourth is former Manchester United and Astin Villa defender Paul McGrath, with the softly spoken Irishman managing to play for his country on eighty three occasions, this despite a career plagued by knee problems.  

    Hero of the nineteen ninety world cup finals penalty shootout against Romania, Pat Bonner comes in fifth, woth the former goal keeper plating for Ireland on no fewer than eighty occasions.
