How Long Does Someone Need To Be Married Before They Can "Claim" Apart Of Someone's Pension?

My son has been working for the Post Office for a year (Oct 2007). He was married in December of 05. He is now in the process of a divorce (seperated 1/11/07 - divorce is not final yet). Is his wife entitled to his pension. They live in California if that matters.

I am not totally sure.BUT I believe it is 6/7 years. They hardly had any time invested in the marriage. I am almost positive that he should have nothing to worry about. Besides, make sure he counts his blessing that he has ONLY been with the Post Office for 1 year. You really do not have that much pension to worry about.
