When Do I Give My Puppy Its Shots?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Sometimes a parvo vaccine is done around 6 weeks so check with your vet (some breeds like Rottweiler's, Doberman's and Pit's are very prone to parvo). Then 8 weeks and after that it's generally every 3 to 4 weeks until about 4 or 5 months depending on the veterinarian's preference. Some diseases are a little more prevalent in different area of the country and your vet is likely to know which ones are commonly in your area and if any others than rabies may be required by the state. The reason they get so many sets of shots is so we can be sure one of them worked so don't take your pup outside or in public until the vet advises you after the LAST puppy set. Rabies is given anywhere from the 3 to 6 month mark (and then check with the vet it varies area to area and state to state) depending on where you live and the veterinarian may advise certain vaccines based on your area, lifestyle, and your pups risk of exposure.
