John Grisham had made the reporters character of Denzel Washington, Gray Grantham, work for the prestigious paper Washington Post. But this was altered in the movie The Pelican Brief to the fictional news paper Washington Herald.
The Washington Post is one of the oldest newspapers in Washington DC and is by far the largest. It was founded in the year 1877. The News paper used in the movie was the Washington Herald. No such newspaper as such exists today but there was one that did in times long gone. The Washington Herald was in existence from the year 1906 to 1939 and was merged with the Washington Times and was later merged into The Washington Post.
One of the reasons why John Grisham probably chose the Washington Post as the newspaper of choice was perhaps its reporting on matters related to the White House.
