Should Pit Bulls Be Banned?

Answer Question

7 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

I think certain dog owners need to be banned from having them in the first place before banning an actual breed of dog
Any dog has the potential to seriously injure or kill Pit Bulls are simply easy pickings for the press to sensationalize.

It's not th breed of the dog that makes them bad, but the choices in care and actions of their owners.  Such things as pitbull fights, harsh language, demeaning attitudes...they can have sever psychological effects on a dog.  I kind of agree with IRONICBLIS in the fact that there should be a sort of ban on owners, but this would have to be (as sad as it s) implemented after the first incident of mistreatment by an owner.  It is easy for the media to attack because of the severity of damage they usually cause, but again this could more than likely be caused by the owners actions and treatment of that animal.

I think that pit are built to do damage. They have a powerful jaw that locks. I have owned pitts all my life- NEVER had a problem!!! They need time and kind training. Pure n simple... I  think they have the ability to cause trouble- but so do 3 year olds.... You wouldn't think to ban 3 year olds (we should) But  I think its unfair to punish the dog when it's clearly the owner...

No. Stiffer penalties for dog fighting would go a long way in reducing the stigma attached to pitbulls. When i was a kid no one had even heard of pitbulls, it was dobermanns and german shepards we were all scared of. Then it was pits, then it was rottweillers. It'll be another breed later. You could easily breed an english mastiff with something and have a real killing machine, couldn't you! But it's not the breed, like the others have said, it's how the dog is trained. Any dog can become vicious in the wrong hands.

I don't know to much about pitt bulls only that they are beautiful dogs It makes me sad that that they are getting judge and banned I live in apartments that do not accept pittbulls and one of my neighbors has a pittbull stuck in a small patio and everyday that I pass night oR day he is there peeking out with not a bark all I can see is his cute eyes and ears. It makes me wander if he ever goeS on a walk or he gets some love. As for the shelters here are full of beautiful pittbulls. Makes me wander why people continue to breed dogs we have enough cuties in that are suffering. People need to get educated
