    Finland, or as it is officially called, The Republic of Finland, is a part of the group of Nordic nations. It is located in the northern portion of the continent of Europe, and is neighboured by countries like Sweden, Russia and Norway. The water bodies surrounding Finland include the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland.

    Finland covers a total area of 330, 000 square kilometres, housing a total number of 5, 276, 571 residents, thus making it the most sparsely populous nation in the European Union.

    The government follows a democratic republic structure with a semi presidential arrangement as well as Parliamentarism. It was formerly a member of the Swedish empire and following that an independent Duchy in the Russian kingdom until it announced its independence on the 6th of December in the year 1917.
