Menstrual periods in girls usually start at the age of 11-13 years. First ever periods in a girl's life are called menarche while last periods are called menopause. Menarche is largely dependent upon inherited character and environment. Girls of Africa, Southeast Asia and Arab countries can get early menarche then girls of Europe. If periods do not start in a girl even at the age of 16 then she should visit a doctor immediately.
