What Was The Approach Of President Abraham Lincoln Towards The Defeated South?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

After he was reelected as President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln had fully realized the fact that it was only a matter of time when the Civil War would end with a Union victory, which was an accurate surmise.  Although Abraham Lincoln had strived hard for the abolition of slavery and had established the end of slavery as one of the chief goals of the Civil War, this did not fade his intense desire to save the Union and to enable the Confederate states to become part of the United States again.

His endless love for his country enabled him to preclude any kind of malice in his heart for the Confederate soldiers and the defeated south and preached the same feeling amongst his fellow countrymen, spreading the word of establishing love and unity and adopting the practice of forgiveness throughout the nation and make the United States a unified paragon of perfection.
