Why A Rubber Sucker Sticks To A Surface?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Air pressure below the sucker is very low, so air pressure on top of the sucker holds it down.

The suction cup(concave shape) and the vacuum seal between the (flat)surface of the ex:wall and the cup when the air is removed under the cup by the pressure you exert on it then forms a seal to keep the air out and the(rubber/elastic) cup tries  to return to it original shape creating a vacuum until the seal is broken allowing the cup to return to it's original shape.if i read this page right.forums.randi.org
