Who Was Helen Of Troy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

According to Greek mythology, Helen of Troy was considered to be one of the most if not the most beautiful women ever. She was the daughter of Zeus and Leda (Zeus, in the form of a swan, ravaged her mother) and also the sister of Castor, Clytemnestra and Polydeuces. She was the wife of the king of Sparta, Menelaus. Paris abducted her and this resulted in the Trojan War.

Although these are the raw, cold, hard facts there is so much more to Helen. Her story is one of great beauty, great romance, great vengeance, and a great tragedy. Helen was a powerful and vibrant character, and her story follows this vein. She was given in marriage to Menelaus but she later falls in love with Paris. They decide to run away and Paris takes her back with him although it is prophesized that she will bring about their doom.

Menelaus followed Helen to troy, sent in the famous Trojan horse and burnt the city to the ground. He took Helen home with him, but she pined for Paris until her last breath with which she said, "Paris, I come."
