Got A Letter In The Mail Today Stating That I Won A Substantial Amount Of Money And All I Had To Do Was To Send A Fee Of $19.99. Obviously This Is A Scam. How Can They Be Stopped?

I received a letter in the mail from Award Payment Data Release Division based outta New York stating that I won a total of $1,400,000.00 and that all I had to do is to send to them an Award Payment Data Release Fee of $19.99. If won why am I sending them a fee? Does not make sense.

This is also mail fraud and I believe that makes it a federal offense.  In any case you need to give all pertinent data (I always make a copy for myself) to a postal inspector.  Someone at the post office can steer you to the right person.

You are right, if you won money, you are never asked to send money to get money, or cash a check to get money. If I remember right you can contact the BBB and ask them who you should contact about this, and report it. Hope this helps, good luck to you, sorry you didn't really win.

In Buffalo, N.Y.  we can contact the Attorney Generals' Office  if we suspect a scam.
