    The official name of Cambodia is Kingdom of Cambodia. It is located in the south East Asian region. The country gained independence from France on November 9, 1953. Monarchy was restored to the kingdom in the year 1993. It has a total area of 181, 035 square kilometers. According to the census conducted in the year 2008, the population comprises of 13,388,910 people but according to estimates, it is expected to have increased to 14,241,640. Its capital city is Phnom Penh.

      The Kingdom of Cambodia as it is called is an Asian country located in Southeast Asia. The nation has a population of over thirteen million. Citizens of Cambodia are generally referred to as Cambodian. "Khmer", is generally used in reference to ethnic Khmers. Majority of the Cambodians are Theravada Buddhists of Khmer extraction. Cambodia also has a sizeable population of predominantly Muslim Cham, and also small hill tribes.

      Cambodia is an ethnically homogeneous country, with over 90% of its population being of Khmer origin and speaking the Khmer language, which is also the country's official language. The remainder of the population comprises of Vietnamese, Chinese, Cham, Khmer Loeu, and Indians. Theravada Buddhism, was suppressed by the Khmer Rouge but is experiencing a revival today and is the dominant religion. Islam accounts for 5% of the religious practice while Christianity accounts for 2%.
