    The president of Iran is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He was born on October 28, 1956. On August 3, 2005, he became the sixth president of Iran. His political career has been filled with controversy. He has been criticized for his statements on several topics, including statements made regarding the holocaust and the legitimacy of Israel's existence. He publicly expressed doubt in the fact that the holocaust ever took place. He is believed to have been one of the radicals who seized the American Embassy in 1979. Ahmadinejad was appointed mayor of Tehran on May 3, 2003. He has challenged many of the changes that have been made by previous mayors. As mayor, he was known to argue repeatedly with the former president over many issues. He is now in a worldwide controversy regarding Iran's nuclear program. He has been continuing to develop this program over the denials of other countries. His presidency is beginning to shape the future for Iran in many different ways.
