William David Trimble, the leader of the Ulster Unionist Party or UUP of Northern Ireland, got the noble prize for peace in the year 1998. John Hume was the co recipient with him.
David Trimble was born on 15th October, 1944 in Belfast in Northern Ireland. He was elected to the British parliament in the year 1990 and in the year 1995 he became the leader of Ulster Unionist Party or UUP. In September, 1997, he started the multiparty peace talks through his Ulster Unionist Party. Through the talks the Good Friday Agreement was terminated in April, 1998 with the members of Sinn Fein. Sinn Fein was the political wing of the IRA or Irish Republican Army. The main purpose of the agreement was to bring back self-Government in Northern Ireland. David Trimble signed the agreement and effectively campaigned for its acceptance in Northern Ireland as well as Ireland.
During 2001, David Trimble became the first minister after winning elections of the new Northern Ireland assembly. But in the same year he resigned from that post for the conflict with the IRA or Ireland Republican Army. David Trimble returned to government next of that year, after decommissioning was initiated.
