Is It True It Took Ten Years To Develop The First SENSA Pen?

Answer Question

Absolutely. From the first back-of-an-envelope doodling to product launch in 1995, a entire decade had elapsed. This, by any standards, is an amazingly long lead-in time for any product, let alone a pen.

But what was so different about the SENSA pen was that it was truly ground-breaking. This was no mere design rehash for next season. This was a complete ground up redesign of the ink pen.

From the start, the goal was to completely rethink the pen as an instrument from writing. It wasn't so much breaking the mould as smashing it into smithereens and starting completely from scratch. Foremost was to end up with a pen that was the perfect ink to paper delivery system.

The objective was an ergonomic pen that felt right, that would write with precision and be attractive and easy to use. Strong, lightweight alloys were selected for the barrel and an entirely new material, plasmium™, a gel-like plastic, was developed to offer the ultimate ergonomic grip for the user.

The ink drive mechanism and refill cartridges were also completely reworked, nothing in the entire design being left to chance or received wisdom.
