What Hardware Will Be Supplied When I Order Broadband?

Most broadband service providers supply all the kit you need to get up and running out of the box. However, you can opt to buy your own kit but it is very unlikely the ISP will be able to provide technical support for modem or router they haven't supplied themselves. Unless you are technically-savvy it's probably best to stick with what is on offer from the broadband company in case there are configuration problems with your self supplied hardware.

The broadband service provider's hardware will be delivered to you before your line activation date. All the instructions are included and for most people the setting up is not a big deal so long as they follow the guide step-by-step. Any necessary software is included on CD which auto-runs and detects what additional software, if any, is required.

The box from the broadband service provider will also include micro-filters, small adaptor plugs that go into your phone sockets. All telephony devices using your broadband landline either directly or via an extension must be connected via a micro-filter to avoid interference when making a phone call.

An exact list of what is provided will be supplied by your broadband partner. Generally if you have all the right connections for broadband from computer through to the telephone connection, you will need no additional hardware. If you are starting from scratch you may need to take a transfer box - similar to the old modems - and DSL or similar connection to your telephone access point.
