How Long Does It Take For Your Dog To Stop Bit-ting On You?

Answer Question

If your dog is still a puppy, the chewing is probably mostly caused by teething.  When the puppy bites you, say 'no' in a stern voice and then give them something acceptable to chew on.  I've found that hard rubber toys (especially those that you can hide treats in like 'kongs') work the best with full results in about a month.

Some dogs seem to be pre-disposed to chewing or biting even as adults, though.  If this is your situation, when the dog bites, simply turn away from them and do not engage them in any way.  They will initially follow you to look at you and try to continue playing with you or biting on you.  Continue to turn away from them and ignore them.  They usually catch on within a week of this that if they bite you, they no longer get to play with you so they stop on their own.
