    Conner generally means student. The word comes from the verb to con, which is an old verb meaning to learn by heart or to study. As a name, Conner is a variant of Connor, a masculine name, which is believed to have its roots in the Gaelic name 'Conchobhar' meaning "dog or wolf lover".

    In zoology a conner (Crenilabrus melops), in addition to the being name of a marine European fish could also refer to the related American cunner. It many mean Gilthead, which is also the name of another fish - the Pagrus, or Chrysophrys, auratus and the Crenilabrus melops, which is found off the British coasts. The former is a valuable fish that is commonly found in the Mediterranean (the fish gets its name due to its golden-colored head).

    Conner, Apayao, is a municipality located in the Philippines. Conner McKnight was a character the appeared in Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, a television series.
