Why Won't Anyone But Pubs Accept My Northern Irish Money In England?

There are a couple of things at work here. Firstly there is a myth that these notes are easier to forge, which is simply not true. Secondly, English money, that printed by the Bank of England, is the only technically legal tender in the United Kingdom! The banks of Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland that produce their own notes are accepted, but they are not technically the legal tender and so can be refused in countries other than where they were printed.
The other thing is the big Northern Bank raid two years ago, which put in the mind of most people in the UK that there are millions of pounds of stolen bank notes floating about and they don't want to get caught out. If they would open their eyes and ears, they'd know that completely knew bills or notes were printed after the raid and those notes are no longer tendered anywhere!

This is simply untrue as long as the note says "pounds sterling" this is legal tender in ALL UK countries, it's illegal to refuse them. Most people are scared of the notes so refuse them, however any bank or post-office will change them gladly for you, don't take no for an answer.
