The 1953 Corvette did not have side windows. It was designed by Harley Earl, an automobile designer and stylist who was passionate about sports cars. The 1953 Corvette was unveiled at the Motorama car show in the year 1953. The car took its name from the corvette. A corvette is defined as a small manoeuvrable fighting frigate.
The outer body of the 1953 Corvette was made out of fibreglass. Fibreglass was considered to be a revolutionary new composite material at that time. It was chosen as the material of the body of the first-ever Corvette because there were a large quantity of steel which was left over after the World War II ended in the year 1945.
Underneath the radical new body of the 1953 Corvette, there were standard Chevrolet components. It had a Blue Flame inline six-cylinder engine, two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission and drum brakes, all of which were parts of Chevrolet's regular line of cars.
