Why Did Macy Say That Mamet's Work On Acting Is The Next Generation Of Stanislavki?

Answer Question

I believe that Macy was referring to how both of them have developed certain elements of Stanislavski's work, stream lining it and cutting away most of the nonsense and leave it with an emphasis on the play and the actor in the play.

It is a development or an evolution of Stanislavski's late work (whilst it is negative verging on abusive about the early work!) which is called a Method of Physical Actions.  A system of developing psycho-physical patterns moving the actor through the play from beginning to end. Yet much was still focused on the character, someone who despite much writing does not exist.

Instead Mamet and Macy devised a simple philosophy of acting, and a simplified way of analysing text for action, the building block of good drama.

Many have accused them of taking the best parts of different techniques and styles, I would say, yeah.. what's the problem? Don't you have to use what works without slavishly following a single doctrine?
