The battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066 near Hastings, England. It was the most important victory for Normans in their conquest of England. Duke William of Normandy defeated the Anglo-Saxon army which was led by King Harold II.
King Harold had self proclaimed himself the king of England after the death of Edward the Confessor. He kept on ignoring Regular warnings sent by William. On September 28, 1066, William launched an attack and reached Pevensey unchallenged. He defeated King Harold after a hard fought battle. There were hardly any soldiers and defenders left after the battle. William, after taking a nights break went on to pursue the Norman Conquest.
The Battle of Hastings can also be taken as an excellent example of combined arms put together in the right way.
