Who Is The Richest Man In Wales?

The 52-year-old financial wizard Michael Moritz is the richest man in Wales. He has a personal fortune of 1.35 billion pounds sterling, and is one of two billionaires on the Sunday Times' list of the richest Welshmen, the other being Sir Terry Matthews. Moritz is a financier by profession, and has helped successfully launch Google.com, the leading Internet search engine, in his country. Though Google is one of Moritz's biggest success stories to date, he has also invested in companies such as Apple, Atari, Paypal and Yahoo.

The information technology venture capitalist was virtually an unknown person until he emerged as the richest man in Wales on the Sunday Times list. Born and raised in Penylan, a suburb of Cardiff, Moritz, a former journalist with two books on business (one on Chrysler and the other on Apple), was educated at the now-defunct Howardian High School, where he excelled in academics and was also the head boy. He studied history at Oxford University and acquired an MBA degree from Wharton Business School in Pennsylvania. He is married with two teenage sons and now lives in San Francisco, California, where he works for the venture capital firm Sequoia Capital.
