Car Acts Like Out Of Gas And Battery Keeps Going Dead, what To Do?

Answer Question

Drive it more often, period. The internal electrical drain on the battery ,even when the car is not in use , will continue to deplete the battery unless you run the engine on a regular basis. My wife has a CTS BUT I drive her all over in my GMC Envoy. She dislikes driving so the car sits sometimes weeks without being turned over. I offered to do it and she says she will take care of HER car. Unfortunately, that is a simple promise and it is never kept. The result is a dead battery over and over again. Solution, if you do not drive it often start it and let it run for about 20 minutes every 3 or 4 days. It is a peculiarity of this car but symptomatic of a lack of care and maintenance on the operator. Even the dealer will tell you this. (Now if you listen that is another matter.) Once you put the key in and it is a dead battery the key will get locked in the ignition until you go through the release sequence . Mine has never released with those instructions. I had to get power back on. Once you kill of a few cells in your battery it will never be effectively recharged.......Sorry ! If you drive it regularly there is not problem.
