I Am A Chain Smoker How Can I Give Up?

Answer Question

I stopped smoking two years ago after 33 years of chain smoking. From the time I got up till the time I went to bed I used to smoke, but I knew that it would kill me as it had my mother and father. Then I had my grandson in my care, he was 2 years old and he was going to need me to live otherwise he would go into care. Plus, he was breathing in the smoke and I wasn't going to hurt him because of me so I went to the doctor for patches (not the tablets or gum because every time you put one in your mouth it reminds you that you want to smoke). Patches go on in the morning until the next morning so you are not constantly reminded. Your skin gets better and you can taste better too and you can also tell someone who smokes because it stinks. You dont know how bad it smells until you give up yourself. If you want to you can chew on spearmint gum whilst on patches (dont use sugar free if possible it gives you the runs as I found out).  Do yourself a favour and give up. You will smell a lot better than a smoker.

Very simple. That habit is obviously a safe haven (comfort blanket, if you will), to avoid facing the deeper issue that's troubling you. (Nicotine has no power over you).
Search your past and heart for what that could be. Be honest with yourself. The only way to get rid of fear is to face it.
Put that issue behind you by realizing what's going to happen in your life if you don't quit. (That's how you agin the necessary leverage to destroy log-standing problems). See the possible cancer, your possible passing away due to it, the pain of sorrow for your loved ones....ask yourself which is more painful:- All of that? Or quitting? Your choice seems clear to me. I wish you success and God-speed.

You need to really want to quit.  Nicotine is very addictive but you get over the "drug" addiction in about a long weekend.  Your emotional addiction takes a while.  However, you will feel better after only a few days.  Call or go on line to the American Cancer Society.  THey have a lot of good tips.  They have a list of things that are improved within just days of quitting.  I really loved smoking but I quit because I don't want to die because of some stupid habit.

I quit smoking 30 years ago, the way I did it was to gradually reduce the amount of nicotine. I did this by getting brands which contained less nicotine. At the time the brand which had the least amount of nicotine was called NOW . Today there are many programs you can try I suggest you try one that works for you. My only regret was that I didnt quit sooner.
