What Kind Of Disease Is Sickle Cell Disease?

    A sickle cell disease is said to be general term which refers to the group of genetic disorders. The disease is caused by the sickle haemoglobin (Hgb S or Hb S). In various different form of the disease, the red blood cells (RBC's) change shape and generally start looking like bananas. After the deoxygenation due to polymerization of the abnormal sickle haemoglobin, the sickle cell disease most commonly in people or in their descendants who mainly originate or are from the Sub Saharan Africa. But sometimes it also occurs in people of other different ethnicities. The mutated gene in the sickle cell anaemia is recessive, which means it has to be inherited from each parent in order to receive the disease. This disease is said to be chronic and will last life long.
