The earth revolves around the sun and rotates on its axis. It is inanimate or non living and there is no question of it getting exhausted. Aristotle's theory of movement suggests that all objects have been set into motion by something else. It is believed that a comet passing the sun caused the planets to form and set them in motion. The gravitational force of the sun defined the orbits for the sun. The speed of the earth's rotation at the equator is one thousand six hundred and seventy kilometres an hour. The speed of the earth's revolution around the sun is thirty kilometres per second. The earth has an atmosphere but the solar system does not. In fact space is a vacuum and hence there is no friction that acts against the movement of the earth, leaving it free to spin.
