    pinkberry9 almost had it, but the answer is x=4 or x=-3.  If you substitute 0 for x in the original equation you would have 0=60, which we know is not true so we know x=0 is not true either.

    It may be clearer to go a couple of more steps past were pinkberry9 stopped.

    in step 3 pinkberry9 had
         5 (x-4) (x+3) = 0
    which is correct

    Step 4: Now divide both sides of the equation by 5 to get
         (x-4) (x+3) = 0

    Step 5: Now divide both sides of the equation by (x-4) to get
    (x+3) = 0
    or
    x = -3

    Step 6: Of course, we can also divide both sides of the equation in Step 4 by (x+3) to get
    (x-4) = 0
    or
    x = 4

    so x can equal -3 or 4 and the equation is still true.  This makes sense  at step 3 where pinkberry9 stopped because anything multiplied by 0 is equal to zero.  Looking at step 3 you see three terms 5, (x-4), and (x+3).  If any term is equal to zero the equation is true.  5 is not equal to 0.  (x-4) is equal to 0 if x = 4.  (x+3) is equal to 0 if x = -3.

    Step 7: check your answer by substituting 4 for x in the original equation and you get 60 = 60.  Do it again by substituting -3 for x in the original equation and you still get 60 = 60.

    You could also just substitute the coefficients into the quadratic equation to get the same answer if you have learned about that already.

    This is probably way more detail than you needed to know, but I thought I would put it in to show why x does not equal 0, and in case somebody else reading your question needs help to understand the concept.

      I have never been good at math, let alone algebra, and geometry.  You must be very intelligent to be taking this class.  This gives me a headache just thinking about it.  Good luck.  How are you suppose to figure out what x stands for in this equation?  Of course, that is why you are asking others here.  WOW!  Good luck.

      Okay

      1st - put everything on one side and have it equal to zero
      5x2 - 5x - 60 = 0
      2nd - either factor out the 5 or leave it in
      5 (x2 - x - 12) =0 or shown above
      3rd - factor out
      5 (x-4) (x+3) = 0
      x = 4, -3, or 0
