Is Using My Broadband Connection For Data Back Up A Good Idea?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Using your broadband connection to back up business-critical data at the end of each day is a wise move. It is estimated that 90 per cent of companies suffering catastrophic data loss go out of business within two years.

Although most business now back up data regularly, these are not foolproof solutions. Most systems depend on a degree of human intervention to initiate the process, and, as we all know, the weakest link in the chain is invariably the user. Even with the best will in the world, we are all fallible.

Furthermore, there is another weak point – where the data is stored. Ninety or more per cent of the time, the data back up store is physically located within the premises and therefore still at risk in the event of fire, flood or theft.

A much safer option by far is the automatic backing up of data to a remote server housed in a state-of-the-art high security data centre. With terabytes of disk space, clients' data is uploaded via an encrypted secure connection at pre-set intervals. Software installed on the user's machines starts the back up automatically, cutting out the need to remember.
