What Would Make My Tank Start Turning Brown?

Well, buddy I definitely would like to know that when you have bought this tank and did you ever washed it or not. Secondly what sort of tank is it, if it I a water tank then I will suggest you to wash your tank twice a month as if the tank is of plastic material then all the dirt of the water sticks on the sides of the tank.

As you have mentioned that the tank is of 55 gallon then it is not easy to washed twice then make it once necessary to make it clean.
If then tank if of chemicals used for the plants pests and is of plastic material, then it is obvious that the chemicals are showing their reaction in the tank and this is why your tank is turning brown form inside. As it is started now that's why you can only see it inside the tank but later on may be you see it outside of the tank as well. I will advise to get it checked by the expert before it harms you or any other thing at your home or at your workplace.

If you are asking about salt water aquariums, it's a biological plant growth. Try upping your salt level a bit more. Also check your lighting. I found that blue lighting is best. If the coral is dead, take it out and soak it in bleach.... then rinse it REALLY good and soak it in a salt water rinse before putting it back in the tank. Same goes for fresh water, just bleach the coral and rinse!
