Answers
World War II had propagated the British Government to take steps to resolve the Quality problems in UK's most critical high-tech industries of those times, such as munitions. The British Standards Institute (BSI) was constantly involved in research and development of standards and subsequently it came up with BS 9000 during 1971, BS 5179 in 1974 and the most significant of all BS 5750 in 1979.
This white paper has a key importance in the history of development of ISO as it formed the basis of the Inspection Industry, by organizing certification schemes for the manufacturers. This paper also declared the British Government's backing for the BSI for the promotion of adoption of the quality standard as quickly as possible. Moreover, it also authorized the BSI to represent British Government's stance on adoption of Quality standards at global level.
