The Atomic Number Is The Number Of What?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The atomic number is the number of protons in an atom. I just did a chapter over this in my biology class. On the Periodic Table of Elements, the elements (specific types of atoms) are named by the number of protons they have. For example, hydrogen ( H) has one proton, so the atomic number is one. Cobalt has twenty-seven protons, so the atomic number is twenty-seven. Hope this helps!
