Not always the easiest thing to do but sit down with him and just talk it all out, and tell him what you want for now could only be temporary and who knows what tomorrow will bring

Just tell him that you need a break but you want to be friends....if he really loves you .....he will understand

Just say that you have enjoyed going out with him but you'd be better off as friends. Hopefully, he will understand and still be a good friend with you.
