What Are The Traditional Values?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Traditional values are a set of social norms. These norms define and bind the family into a structural framework that is acceptable and in conformity to societal norms. Traditional values also specify the proper roles and perceived responsibilities of every member of each family in the society. Traditional values over the years have been associated with a conservative mindset, but this is a narrow, and sometimes, incorrect way to define it, and this connotation is often misconstrued by ignorant and shallow people. Traditional values should not be compromised under any circumstances for the sake of development of the individual and the society at large.

For example, it is inappropriate to relate traditional values and other conventions laid down by the society, such as sexual morality, the traditional roles of the male and female members, opposition of homosexual relationships (including gay marriages) and abortion. Traditional values in a broad term that is also sometimes used to refer to the censorship of certain vulgar phenomena which are creations of the mass media that can cause some people to get hurt or embarrassed, such as nudity, racism, violence, sex, profanity, obscenity and indecent representation of women.

While traditional values advocate tolerance towards most things, they must be observed with certain restriction, as they may influence the impressionable minds of young children, who often tend to copy their role models or elders blindly.
