    Preston is a name of city as well as the local government district located in North West England. It is situated on the river Ribble and serves as the administrative centre for Lancashire. The status of city is granted to Preston only in the year 2002 and has the distinction of becoming the 50th city of England in the 50th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth.

    The estimated population of Preston in the year 2005 was 131,300. And according to the census of 2001, the majority of the population in Preston is Christian. Muslims were also substantial in percentage and followed by Hindus and Sikhs. In terms of ethnicity the White contributed most with approximately 85.5 per cent.

    The total area of Preston is 142.22 square kilometers and is ranked 215th in England.
